does Sleep Apnea Cause Obesity

Would I be a candidate for Roux-en-Y (Gastric Bypass)?
I have been doing some research on a few medical conditions I have, and more than one of them recommend Roux-en-Y for surgical treatment.
These conditions include:
-Bile Reflux (consistent after cholecystectomy)
-GERD/Heartburn
-Obesity (BMI 36)
-Snoring/Sleep Apnea
A small description of the situations, the Bile Reflux has not resolved following a treatment protocol and is causing gastritis and worsening the GERD/Heartburn and also causing what my gastroenterologist believes to be IBS . I attained obesity after rapidly putting on weight after chemotherapy a year ago, I have been exercising constantly and have not lost any weight. I must also add that I am only 18 years old.
Is this worth bringing up to my primary care physician or is there other alternative treatments I should consider, or am I just to young for this procedure?
Thanks for your help
Usually you have to have been morbidly obese and have a BMI of 40 or more for at least 5 years before being considered for gastric bypass. I think your best option might be to seek the opinion of your gastroenterologist as the Rou-en-Y might make other things you have going on, even worse. Seek out that opinion before going forward. If you have a problem with GERD there is a a possibility that the procedure won’t change that and you could be in for even worse symptoms.
Another thing you should do is keep a food journal and be brutally honest with yourself. Record every single bite you put in your mouth, record all the water you drink and also how much REAL exercise you are doing – and you don’t count the activity you do in a normal day as exercise – you count what you intentionally do as exercises. You might find some surprises there.
You aren’t too young for Roux-en-Y but it may not be appropriate for you.
